LA CRESCENTA -- A former Sony Pictures Entertainment vice president
and a La Crescenta woman were ordered by an L.A. Superior Court judge
Wednesday to stand trial on grand theft and money laundering charges.
Judge H. Randolph Moore said there was sufficient evidence for a case
to proceed against Chatsworth resident and Sony executive Sue Studnicka,
60, and friend Linda Sue Brooks, 55, of La Crescenta.
The charges are based on an alleged scam executed by the two through
which more than $400,000 was taken from Sony.
Studnicka, who was in charge of outside sale and lease of music used
in motion pictures, allegedly authorized false payments to Brooks between
1991 and 1999, news reports said.
When the alleged scam was uncovered in August 1999, Studnicka was
discharged from the Sony company, according to news reports.
Studnicka has posted $250,000 bail, but Brooks was still in jail
Wednesday afternoon, news reports said.
The two are expected to enter pleas to their charges at L.A.
Courthouse downtown April 17.
