LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- A bill by Assemblywoman Carol Liu (D-La Canada
Flintridge) that would help family members of the victims of the Sept. 11
terrorist attacks has passed unanimously out of the state Assembly.
The bill would waive tuition to California community colleges,
California State University and University of California schools for
dependents and spouses of those killed on Sept. 11.
The victims and their families are required to have been California
residents at the time of the attacks, according to the legislation.
Existing laws already exempt dependents and spouses of police officers
and firefighters killed in the line of duty from paying tuition to the
University of California and California State University. Liu’s bill will
also include tuition exemptions for California community colleges.
