GLENDALE -- Thirteen local athletes will compete in the CIF Southern

Section track and field championships beginning at 10:30 a.m. today at

Cerritos College in Norwalk.

In the team competition, the Flintridge Prep girls’ squad is seeking a

top-three finish in Division IV, battling North Hills L.A. Baptist,

Pasadena La Salle and Santa Maria St. Joseph.

The Rebels have individuals entered in the 100, 200 and 400, in

addition to the 400 and 1,600 relays.

Junior Sevan Yeghiazarian is the odds-on favorite to win the pole

vault, with sophomore teammate Jamie Quan battling for second.

The relay core of Maya Benitez, Lindsay Fletcher, Coco Kleinert,

Allison Pedro and Jacquelyn Woods will have to overcome L.A. Baptist and

junior sprinter Allyson Felix to win either relay, but Flintridge Prep

appears to have the depth to lock up a top-three finish in both.

In other Division IV action, Rebel juniors Seth Horwitz and Alfred Yi

will race in the boys’ 3,200 and the 110 and 300 hurdles, respectively.

In Division III, St. Francis’ Pat Donovan is scheduled to run in the

boys’ 800. La Canada’s Tommy McGuinness is entered in the long jump and

Nick Sinclitico will compete in the shot put. Glendale sophomore Kim

Ramirez will also get an early start, competing in the Division I girls’

high jump.

Nitro senior Argishti Beglaryan is the first alternate for the

nine-athlete race, despite clocking the second-fastest time in the state

this year.

In order for Beglaryan to compete, one of the top-nine qualifiers

would have to decide not to run.
