Performing at Penelope’s

Customers at Penelope’s Cafe Saturday not only got to sip their

coffee but listen to the sounds of vocalist Jennifer Gates. It was

the second performance at Penelope’s Cafe for Gates, who performed

tunes from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s, accompanied by a pianist. Gates

is a mezzo-soprano, a member of the Blue Rhythm Jazz Orchestra and a

former member of the group The Free Movement in the 1970s. Penelope’s

Cafe regularly schedules performers for weekend shows, Coordinator

Giovanna Withers said. Performers’ shows range in music styles and
