One-day computer classes

The Glendale College Community Services Education program offers

one-day seminars in Windows 98, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

that cover the fundamentals and more.

Introduction to Windows 98 may be taken Sept. 28 or 29. Students

files and find out about anti-virus and utility programs.

The Microsoft Word 2000 class covers program features including

adding columns, tables, lists, tabs and alignment as well as adding

graphics, charts and effects to documents. The course is offered Oct.

5 and 6.

applications of the spreadsheet program using text, numbers,

formulas, shortcuts and charts.

The classes all meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the college’s Adult

Community Training Center, 1122 E. Garfield Ave. Phillip Warnecke is

the instructor.

The course fee is $79 for each session. It is recommended that

students have knowledge of Windows 95 or 98 before taking a Word or

Excel class.

payment of course fees.

Build your own

If it isn’t enough to know how to use a computer, there is a class

for the mechanically inclined. Computer Build, Upgrade and Repair is

a hands-on class where no previous experience is necessary.

The instructor is Art Nicholson. Before he started teaching,

Nicholson worked in the defense industry as a senior electronics

engineer with General Dynamics and Hughes Missile System Division.

Everyone in the class will be assigned a computer to build and

troubleshoot. Students will learn motherboard layout, memory

installation, disk-drive formatting and operating systems.

The class is offered twice this semester from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30

p.m. Oct. 5 and 6 and Dec. 7 and 8 at the training center. The fee is

$175. A certificate of completion is awarded to students who

successfully finish the course. Contact the Community Services

Education program for information.
