Kevin Witt (Glendale, 1999) senior driver, Loyola Marymount
University men’s water polo -- Witt ended his stellar record-setting
career with his third All-America selection. Witt received a
third-team nod by the American Water Polo Coaches Assn.
Witt scored 42 goals for the Lions in 2002. Loyola Marymount
(17-15) fell short in its bid to win a second consecutive Western
Water Polo Assn. Championship, dropping a 5-4 decision to UC San
Diego on Nov. 23.
Witt’s career spanned four seasons. He finished second all-time in
scoring at Loyola Marymount, tallying 210 points. Ryan Eisberg set
the program’s record with 304 points from 1994-97. Eisberg’s career
statistics include two-point goals, which were eliminated in 2000.
The 1998 News-Press Player of the Year finished his career with 93
assists, which tops Loyola Marymount’s career list. His 145 steals
also ranked him second in school history.
Witt became just the second Loyola Marymount athlete to earn three
All-America honors. Former men’s volleyball player Reid Priddy, who
plays on the U.S. National team, also earned the distinction.
Earlier this year, Witt became just the second player in his
program’s history to earn four all-conference honors in the WWPA. He
was also named the WWPA Player of the Year this season.

Mexico State women’s basketball -- Garrett was one of four Aggie
players to score in double figures during Saturday’s 77-42 victory
against the University of Texas Pan American. She had 10 points on
four-of-eight shooting, two rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes.
Two days earlier, Garrett and New Mexico State (9-7, 3-1 in the
Sun Belt Conference) suffered a tough loss against Florida
International University. Garrett scored a game-high 22 points,
grabbed seven rebounds, dished out four assists and had two steals,
but her shot at the buzzer didn’t fall in a 56-55 loss.
On the season, Garrett is averaging 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds
per game. Her numbers have increased since conference play started,
as she tallied 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest in four
games.
