Library brings genealogy to you

LA CRESCENTA -- The La Crescenta Library will hold a seminar on

genealogy research on the Internet.

Internet instructor Sondra Morrill will provide tips and the

addresses of Web sites helpful in researching your ancestors. The

program begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the library, 4521 La Crescenta

Students learn about the bug life

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Descanso Gardens is holding a class on

bugs to help gardeners determine which species are beneficial to have

around.

Instructor Allison Mia Starcher will classify beneficial bugs into

predators, parasitoids, pollinators and soil builders.

The class is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Reservations are required

by Wednesday. The cost is $10 for members, $13 for nonmembers. The

lecture will be in Classroom B at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso

Organic vegetables lecture topic

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Descanso Gardens will hold a lecture on

growing organic vegetables.

Instructor Tony Kienitz will provide information on soil and how

to plant, sun and water the vegetables. Information on common

diseases, pests and how to harvest the vegetables will also be

presented.

The three-session lecture is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March

8 and 15. The cost is $30 for members, $40 for nonmembers. Classes

are in Classroom B at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive. For more

Traffic collisions down in January

LA CRESCENTA -- Traffic statistics reported by California Highway

Patrol Officer Vince Bell showed 10 traffic collisions occurred

during January in La Crescenta.

The report was given Thursday at the regular meeting of the

Crescenta Valley Town Council. Of the collisions, six involved

injuries for a total of seven injuries.

The numbers dropped in comparison with December. There were 16

collisions in December in La Crescenta, with eight injury collision

and 11 victims.

Thirteen students merit award finalists

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- La Canada High School is home to 13

finalists in the 2003 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards.

Finalists include Kenneth Fisher, Elizabeth Gilliam, Jennifer

Jones, Aileen Kim, Grace Kim, Sarah Kim, Jane Lee, May Lin, Mark

Malhotra, Tomas Mikuckis, Paul Van Deventer, Michael Winters and Min

Yoo.
