A tour on the town in LCF

Walking up to the home of Rod and Robin Dorman, one can easily see

why it was chosen as part of the La Canada High School 7/8

Parent-Teacher Assn.’s home tour.

Nestled away from the street, the home sits on almost four acres,

surrounded by live oaks and a running stream. The interior reflects

the style of Robin Dorman, a professional interior decorator. Custom

draperies hang over many of the windows, and a leopard-print runner

lines one of the home’s two staircases. The Dormans have lived in the

home for two years, and are still making it their own. A private

theater is being added to the home.

It was one of four homes on Friday’s tour that was attended by

more than 1,000 people. Visitors like Rita Miller were impressed with

what they saw. Miller first viewed a Carmel Craftsman home owned by

Marty and Julie Newton.

“It had beautiful woodwork, and was decorated very nicely,” she

said. “Everything is always so nice on these tours.”

The Newton home featured many Asian art pieces, inherited from a

great-aunt who traveled the world as a Navy commander and collected

the works. The master bedroom included a sitting area that overlooked

the backyard.

The tour has been conducted for more than 20 years, and proceeds

go to fund programs for the 7/8 students at La Canada High School.

Organizers were pleased with Friday’s turnout, publicity chair Brady

Hannah said.

“Our goal was to beat last year’s advance ticket sales, and we’ve

done that,” she said.

Ticket sales were still being counted at press time, but about

1,200 people attended the event last year.
