GCC GRADUATES FIREFIGHTING STUDENTS
Glendale Community College’s Arroyo Seco Fire Academy will see its
sixth graduating class of 36 students off at 1 p.m. Sunday in a
ceremony at The Alex Theatre. Glendale Asst. Fire Chief Don Biggs
will be the keynote speaker. GCC offers the Basic Firefighter Academy
as an extended program on weekends to allow working students to

POLISH ART COMES TO FOREST LAWN MUSEUM
The opening reception for “The Art of a People: Polish
Expressions” will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Forest Lawn
Glendale Museum, 1712 S. Glendale Ave.
The exhibit will consist of canvas paintings and multimedia
presentations of the art of Polish-born artists Danuta Rothschild,
Jerzy Skolimowski and Jan Styka. Styka is deceased, but Rothschild
and Skolimowski will be at the reception.
The free exhibit will run through Nov. 16.

DESCANSO ART EXHIBIT FINISHES THURSDAY
A monthlong exhibit of five female artists will be on display
through Thursday at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive in La
Canada Flintridge.
Admission is $6, $4 for seniors and students, $1.50 for children 5
to 12 and free for members and children 4 and younger.
Shirley Flynn’s oil paintings depict communities from New England
and Southern California. Marsha Grieco will show a collection of
watercolor paintings. Angela Cartwright’s “Picture Poetry” is a
collection of black-and- white photography painted with oils. Miriam
is exhibiting fired porcelain and ceramics. Lilia Venier is
exhibiting ceramics.
The Boddy House Gallery at Descanso Gardens is open from 10 a.m.
