Tour of Europe taken via watercolor

“Stories in Watercolor,” an exhibit by Glendale artist Vince Takas,

takes visitors on a journey to the world’s most romantic destinations

at the Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale.

Opening Jan. 24, the exhibit offers art enthusiasts a watercolor

tour of Italy, with a visit to the Rialto; to Venice with its canals

and quaint little streets; the lush green landscapes of Ireland; and

a glimpse of everyday American life with simple scenes such as a

bicycle leaning against a house.

Takas has worked for the Walt Disney Co. since 1991.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The museum is at 1712 S.

Glendale Ave., Glendale. Admission is free. The exhibit continues

Burbank singer/songwriter Kimberlee, whose music is a blend of

soulful rock and folk, will appear in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at

Border’s Books and Music, 100 S. Brand Blvd., Glendale.

Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, Kimberlee will play

original songs from her second CD “What Am I Gonna Do?” produced by

multi- platinum award-winning producer Paul Laurence.

The songs are meant to inspire listeners to live wholeheartedly

and free themselves from negative energy of the past, she said.

The application deadline for acting, production and directing

internships with A Noise Within in Glendale has been extended until

Sunday.

Interns work side-by-side with professionals at the theater.

Former interns have gone on to work at such venues as the Old Globe

Theatre in San Diego and American Conservatory Theatre in San

Francisco. The term is from Jan. 20 to May 16.

Residents will sing with the Angeles Chorale when it performs

Bach’s Mass in B Minor at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Alex Theatre in

Glendale.

Among the choir’s 130 members are soprano Diane Lee of Glendale

and alto Jennifer Stanley of Burbank.

Donald Neuen, artistic director/conductor, is celebrating his 51st

year as a conductor.

Tickets range from $20 to $40, with student and senior discounts

The Pasadena Symphony presents the Southern California premiere of

Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun’s mysterious

“Concerto for String Orchestra and Pipa” as the centerpiece of the

program at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Featured soloist Gao Hong is the first pipa player ever to perform

with the orchestra. The pipa is a traditional Chinese string

instrument. The concerto was premiered by the Pacific Music Festival

Orchestra in Sapporo, Japan in 1999.

The concert, conducted by music director Jorge Mester of Montrose,

also includes works by Kodaly, Debussy and Haydn. “Insights,” a

pre-concert lecture by pianist and musicologist Julie Wong, is at 7

p.m.

Residents in the symphony are cellist Douglas Davis of La

Crescenta, flutist Louise DiTullio of Glendale, assistant conductor

Lois Johnson of La Canada Flintridge and horn player Philip Yao of

Glendale.

Tickets range from $14 to $66 and $5 for children 5 to 14. For
