Funds help women
gain an education
Soroptimist International of Glendale presented two scholarships
to Glendale women at an awards ceremony March 18 at the Hilton Glendale.
Nareen A. Yepremian received a $1,000 Women’s Opportunity Award.
She will use the award to complete her undergraduate classes at Los
Angeles Mission College as she works toward a degree in dentistry.
Since 1972, this award has aided women who, as head of their
households, must enter the workforce or upgrade their employment
status through education.
Yepremian manages to keep up with her schoolwork and care for her
two children. She believes her hard work sets an example for them.
Also honored was Nina Sanchez, who received the $500 Violet
Richardson Award for volunteerism.
A senior at Clark Magnet High School, she has been an active
member of the Key Club for four years.
Nina’s volunteer activities include raising money for the
Tri-Valley Special Olympics, Graffiti Paint Out and baskets for a
battered women’s shelter.
Founded in 1943, Soroptimist of Glendale is part of Soroptimist
International of the Americas, a volunteer service organization for
women in business, management and the professions.
