Pomeroy, CV plow through Tujunga

Kyle Pomeroy wanted to mash the ball around the park.

He wasted little time.

Pomeroy spurred a big three-run first inning to lead Crescenta

Valley to a 15-2 win against Tujunga in a second-chance bracket

semifinal game of the Little League District 16 All-Star Tournament

at Pacific Park on Thursday night. The game was called after four

innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

CV (1-1) will take on Foothill-Burbank or Jewish War Veterans in

the second-chance bracket final in the 11-year-old division at 5

p.m. Saturday at Pacific Park.

Pomeroy, who finished with two hits, drove in one run and scored

three to help CV recover from a 7-5 first-round defeat to Foothill on

Wednesday.

“If we had to wait another day, we might not have been ready,”

said Pomeroy, who pitched a scoreless first inning. “Then we got

those three runs in the first inning, and it got our team moving.”

Tujunga (0-2) probably wanted to wait one more day to get a crack

at CV.

Kyle Booth made it 1-0 in the top of the first inning when he

tripled to right to score Pomeroy with two outs. CV took advantage of

some poor Tujunga defensive play to extend its lead to 3-0.

CV scored 10 runs in the third to make it 14-0, but lost its bid

for a shutout when Tujunga scored twice in the fourth.

Niko Horwith had two hits for CV, and teammate R.J. Keenan scored

twice.

A.J. Makohon had a run-scoring triple for Tujunga, which opened

with a loss to JWV on Wednesday.

“[CV] played textbook baseball,” Tujunga Coach George Aguillon

said.
