Local Shetland team captures title

The La Crescenta Shetland team won the PONY District Championship

by defeating Charter Oak, 18-14, this past week in an exciting

battle.

In the final inning, the 5- and 6-year-old team stopped a Charter

Oak rally with a throw from deep center by Haston Pawlik to Dacota

Cummins, who then threw a strike to catcher Conor Blakey to make the

tag at home.

Shortstop Gonzalo Rios was a standout as usual. Quinton Hill was

also sensational.

Outfielders Wyatt Ernst, Will Smiley and Wes Faure limited Charter

Oaks to singles with great plays in the outfield.

La Crescenta's offense was led by Chris Reik, who had three

doubles. Marco Angrisani delivered a clutch triple in the fourth

inning, Cameron Wetherby went four for four and Greg Stupakis hit a

home run in the final inning.

La Crescenta advanced to the World Series with the win.
