Linda Powell

1943 - 2004

Linda Kay Powell, born July 4, 1943, in Los Angeles, passed away Sept. 7 in Manitou Springs, Colo.

Linda attended Dunsmore Elementary and Clark Junior High schools in La Crescenta, and she graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale in 1961. She attended Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1967.

She was an illustrator and art director for Looart Press and Current Inc. in Colorado Springs, Colo. While there, her fame grew as a wildlife and nature illustrator. Her work has been exhibited and appreciated by fans around the world.

Her major clients were the National Wildlife Federation, including “ Ranger Rick” magazine, Golden Books and Walt Disney Co. Her illustrations were licensed for limited edition collector’s stamps by the U.S. Postal Service, for plates and figurines by the Calhoun Collectors Society, for Needle Art by Dimensions/Sunset Co., and for a self-titled line of greeting cards and products by American Greeting Co.

She is survived by her mother, Emma Powell; brother Robert of La Crescenta; sister Carol of Manitoba Springs, Colo.; nephew Robert, niece Kelly, great-niece Savahna, and many friends, both human and furry, all of La Crescenta.

A memorial service is pending for the family in California, as well as a private service in Colorado Springs at a later date.
