THE SALVATION ARMY
The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers for its various programs
at the Glendale Corps Community Center, 320 West Windsor Road. People
are needed for programs which include Meal on Wheels deliveries from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Homeless Feeding Help from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30
p.m.; Pantry Helpers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and its After School
Tutors program from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information, call 246-2419.
AMERICAN RED CROSS GLENDALE-CV CHAPTER
Volunteers needed for a wide variety of activities, such as
serving juice and cookies at blood drives or participating on a
Disaster Action Team. Start by attending a New Volunteer Orientation

THE GREATER LOS ANGELES ZOO ASSN.
The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Assn. (GLAZA) is offering hands-on,
behind-the-scenes opportunities for adults and students as part of
its docent and volunteer programs. General volunteer options range
from helping at special events and in the education programs, working
with youngsters at the children’s zoo and helping the animal care
staff prepare food for zoo creatures. For more information, call

GLENDALE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center’s Volunteer Services
is looking for donations of yarn and books. Each year, the hospital
volunteers crochet blankets for the babies as well as the adult
patients in the Transitional Care Unit and Rehabilitation Center. The
volunteers are looking to make more blankets and are in need of
donations of yarn. The volunteers sell the used books and all
proceeds are donated to patient care. For more information, call

DESCANSO GARDENS
Weekday morning opportunities are open for volunteers to work with
special-needs students at Descanso’s Harvest Garden. Volunteers work
9 to 11:30 a.m. with physically challenged and developmentally
delayed students who plant and maintain flower and vegetable gardens.
The Harvest Garden, a model horticultural therapy program, serves
special-needs school students from the area. Volunteers work with

DRIVERS NEEDED
The Salvation Army of Glendale, serving Glendale, La Crescenta,
Montrose and La Canada Flintridge, needs drivers for its “Meals on
Wheels” program. Drivers can do one hour a week or a month.
Individuals who aren’t able to drive can volunteer in the kitchen.

THE WONDER OF READING
This nonprofit organization helps renovate public elementary
school libraries, restocks them and trains volunteers to read with
struggling students. Volunteers are needed for one-on-one reading
with elementary school children during school hours. The Wonder of
Reading has more than 69 school sites. Those interested in
volunteering need to provide two references to be considered. For
