Spooky exhibit at Wax Poetic

A hauntingly fun exhibit featuring 13 artists, many who work in the
animation field, is showing at Wax Poetic Gallery in Burbank.
Among the artists are Frank Dietz, a longtime monster movie fan,
who brings his drawings of classic horror creatures to the Magnolia
Park salon and art gallery. His animation has appeared on several
Disney feature films including, “Hercules,” “Tarzan” and “Atlantis,
The Lost Empire.”
Megan Elizabeth is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work has
appeared at Art Coalition, Out of the Streets and Hangar 1018
galleries. She is currently working on the album cover for musical
group Inure and will be a featured artist in “Religion & Allegory” at
the Toyroom Gallery in Sacramento.
Another artist exhibiting is D.W. Frydendall, a Los Angeles-based
professional visual artist, animator and illustrator, who has worked
at Disney, Universal, DreamWorks, Saatchi and Saatchi and White Wolf.
He is now creating a new series of paintings titled “Childhood
Nightmares” and is finishing his comic titled “The Journal of
Rohauser.”
This exhibit continues through Jan. 15. The gallery and spa salon

CASA ADOBE DE SAN RAFAEL OPEN SUNDAY
Glendale Beautiful members will be giving tours during an open
house from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy
Drive, Glendale.
The open house is usually scheduled on the first Sunday of the
month, but was postponed because of the holiday.
The house features period furnishings and historic artifacts. For

ON STAGE
‘COMEDY OF AEROSMITH’ AT FALCON
The Troubadour Theater Company’s musical parody, “The Comedy of
Aerosmith,” directed by Matt Walker, is continuing at the Falcon
Theatre in Burbank.
It’s a case of mistaken identities, sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll
as the Troubadour Theater Company sends up the bard with the raucous
parody of Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” mixed with the music
of American rock icon, Aerosmith.
This show is for mature audiences only as there are adult humor,
sexy situations and scantily clad women.
Performances are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m.
Sundays until 4 p.m. Jan. 30. Tickets are $25. For reservations, call

‘COME BLOW YOUR HORN’
AT CENTRE THEATRE
Glendale Centre Theatre, in its 59th year of presenting family
entertainment, is offering Neil Simon’s “Come Blow Your Horn.”
Directed by Burbank resident George Strattan, the comedy is about
bachelor brothers sharing an apartment in the Big Apple while
girlfriends come with dinners and designs in hopes of changing their
bachelor status. How the older brother keeps his kid brother and
himself single at the onslaught of those women provides the evenings
fun.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m.
Saturdays through Feb. 12. Prices range from $16 to $20. The theater

SCULPTOR HAS
100th EXHIBITION AT STEPHANIE’S GALLERY
Sculptor and painter Emil Kazaz is having his 100th exhibition at
Stephanie’s Art Gallery in La Canada Flintridge.
He won one of the five gold medals for sculpture at the
International Biennale Exhibition in Florence, Italy in 2003.
He has also recently released a hard-cover book.
The exhibit continues through February. The gallery is at 466

‘PAINTERS TWO’ AT
LA CANADA LIBRARY
“Painters Two,” a collection of paintings by John Parshall and Ann
Hoffman, are on display at the La Canada Flintridge Library.
This exhibit will be on display until Jan. 29. The library is at
4545 Oakwood Ave., La Canada Flintridge. The hours are from 10 a.m.
to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 11

NEW EXHIBIT AT
CREATIVE ARTS CENTER
Ceramist and high-fire clay artist Karin Swildens is exhibiting
her work this month at the Creative Arts Center Gallery in Burbank.
Swildens was born in Holland, raised in Morocco where she learned
French, and studied at Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris.
The gallery is at 1100 W. Clark Ave., Burbank. Hours are 9 a.m. to
8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will continue until Jan. 27.

ARTIST’S ‘VISTAS’ ON
EXHIBIT AT WHITES GALLERY
Glendale artist Kendra Page is displaying her landscape paintings
in an exhibition called “Vistas and Vignettes” at Whites Gallery in
Montrose.
This oil painter’s favorite subject is a wide-open vista of the
California landscape, in any season, but she also paints wildlife and
domestic animals.
Hours are from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and
Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The
show ends Jan. 31. The gallery is at 2414 Honolulu Ave., Montrose.

EXHIBIT AT CAFE ELEGANTE
Jutta Ribot of Sun Valley is showing her photographs in a solo
exhibit at Cafe Elegante in Burbank.
Her pieces, she said, capture more than just light and shadow.
They are neither tourist snapshots, nor technically perfect images,
but pieces of art that reflect a love of nature and a keen eye for
detail. They are “captured moments” in time.

THREE ARTISTS SHOW
WORKS AT BODDY HOUSE
Colorful works await those visiting Descanso Gardens’ Boddy House
Gallery this month.
The three artists will meet and greet guests at the gallery, which
is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Two exhibitors who are
returning to the Boddy House are Tenny Lim, who brings whimsical and
elegant pottery of earthenware, porcelain and Raku, and Gerane
Mooney, whose oil paintings feature vivid colors and bright
highlights in an impressionistic style.
Deborah McDonald, winner of a Creative Challenge competition, will
exhibit watercolors in her first showing at the Boddy House. The
prize-winning painting will be featured in the February edition of
“Watercolor Magic.”
This exhibit continues until Feb. 3. Visits to gallery are free
with gardens admission. Descanso Gardens is at 1418 Descanso Drive,
La Canada Flintridge. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily except
Christmas Day. Parking is free.
