Sympathy extended to Hoover High families

RITA PARDUE-FALLMAN
The Hoover High School Parent Teacher Student Assn. extends sympathy
for the loss of Hoover sophomore Carlos Pinon, who was recently shot
and killed.
According to Kevin Welsh, Hoover High School principal, grief
counseling will be available to Hoover students.
Hoover High School suffered another loss as sophomore Amanda
Geiser-Magallanes was recently killed in a car accident. Her twin
sister, Samantha, and others survived this accident. Forest
Lawn-Hollywood Hills and WeCare4Youth will cover the majority of the
burial expenses for both families. However, there is still a great
need for these families.
Kathy Frazer, Hoover High counselor, is coordinating the
collection of donations. For more information on how you can help,

TOLL MIDDLE SCHOOL
PTA President Julie Zastrow thanks all the students who
participated in gathering and donating food for the Healthy Start
Program. All are invited at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 for a PTA “coffee
house” meeting featuring Toll students reading poetry. For more

BALBOA
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PTA President Lisa Deyell and the Balboa PTA congratulate Glendale
Council PTA’s Reflections art contest winners, including Balboa
students Devin Woodyard, Erika Ismailyan and Henry Marston. Principal
Linda Milano will have a question-and-answer session regarding
changing to a traditional school year at the next PTA meeting at 6:30
p.m. on Jan. 20 in the auditorium.
The PTA will sponsor Astronomy Days on Jan. 27 and 28 on the

FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PTA President Ed Torres invites the public to the first PTA
meeting of the new year at 6:30 tonight in the school auditorium.
There will be a preview of the Scholastic Book Fair.
The Book Fair will be in the school auditorium until Jan 18. Also,
at 7:15 a.m. on Jan. 18, the School Site Council Meeting will be held
in the Conference Room. The English Language Advisory meeting will be

PTA President Ted Gatto extends thanks to everyone for supporting
the Signature gift-wrap fundraiser. Thirty-two families benefited
from the efforts and food donations.

PTA President Kahlena Funk invites everyone to make plans to have
fun at the Mother/ Daughter/Parent Dinner at 6 p.m. on Jan. 28. A
