Matt McCloskey

Matt McCloskey, a member of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church parish for six years, was tragically killed Jan. 14, in a skiing accident at Mountain High Ski Resort in Wrightwood. He was 43 years old.

According to friends, McCloskey had an incredible zest for life. He was an avid sportsman and particularly loved to sail. He, along with his wife Ann and their 7- year-old son, Jack, were devout in their faith and took an active role in their church community. They were a close-knit family sharing wonderful times with their extended family and many friends.

A sensitive and loving husband, father, brother and son, Matt leaves behind him a legacy of adventure and courage. He was generous with his time and talents and lived each day to the fullest. He will be missed deeply by all of his friends and family.

“Matt absolutely loved people,” his wife said. “It didn’t matter if they were a CEO of a company or a janitor, Matt felt like every person had gifts to give. Everyone loved him.”

With his son involved in La Cañada Flintridge soccer and basketball teams, Matt was a familiar spectator as he attended the games rooting the team on with unbridled enthusiasm that was a hallmark of his life.

He had a passion for classic cars and often would deliver and pick up his son from school in his vintage 1971 convertible. He was a man of many interests and great curiosity.

He is also survived by his mother and father, Jane and Jack who live in Marblehead, Mass.; brothers Mark and Michael; and sisters Mary, Meghan, Martha and Madeline.

Services are set for 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Jan. 20) at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church in La Cañada.

McCloskey was born in Marblehead, Mass. He attended Salem State University and made a successful career in different areas of the publishing and advertising fields.

Cabot & Sons Mortuary in Pasadena has handled the arrangements. A scholarship is now being set up for Matt’s son. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donation inquiries be directed to the St. Bede parish office at 949-4300.
