Artist showcases paintings in gallery

“Brian Ruppel: Paintings and a New Installation,” an exhibition in
the Glendale Community College Art Gallery, continues through March
31.
A reception for the artist will be from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight in the
gallery.
Ruppel uses the vibrant colors of TV, including the color test
pattern, and a collage of icons from daily life and comic-book
culture in his enamel on panel works.
Ruppel exhibits locally and internationally. His work has been
exhibited at Bachofner, Raid, Tamara Bane and the Armand Hammer
Museum among others. His art can be found in many private and public
collections including Warner Bros. Television, Frederick R. Weisman
Foundation and the permanent collection at the Laguna Beach Museum of
Art.
Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday
through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Admission is

The juried student art show will open May 9. All the art
disciplines are represented in the final exhibition of the academic
year, including painting, ceramics, drawing, sculpture and
photography.
ENERGY CRISIS TOPIC OF NEXT SCIENCE LECTURE
“Managing the Energy Crisis” will be discussed at the next
presentation of the GCC Science Lecture Series on March 22.
Jean Lecuyer, physics professor at the college, is the speaker.
The science lectures are held from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 243 of
the Santa Barbara Building. Admission is free.
There will be two more lectures this spring. On April 26, physics
professor Rick Guglielmino will present “The Search for Einstein’s
Waves.” Instructor Paul Kazarian will speak on “LIGO and LISA to
Andromeda, Virgo and (maybe) Beyond.”
COURSES FOR SENIORS
HELD AT PACIFIC PARK
Several of the classes offered through the college’s Lifelong
Learning Seminars program meet at Pacific Park, 501 S. Pacific.
The classes are open-entry, enabling participants to enroll in a
class at any time during the semester as long as there is space
available. They are also free.
Seating is available in the following courses held at Pacific
Park: contemporary world problems offered from 10 a.m. to noon
Tuesdays; health/exercise Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30
a.m. to noon; aerobic line dancing meets from noon to 2 p.m.
Wednesdays; the psychology course quality of life held from 10 a.m.
to noon Mondays; stitchery meets from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays; and
quilt making meets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.

GCC OFFERS MONEY MANAGEMENT CLASS
For those retired or planning to retire, Glendale College is
offering a successful money management course beginning March 28.
The class meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays through May 16 at the
main campus in Room 114 of the San Rafael Building.
There is no tuition fee for the class, but a $25 workbook may be
purchased from the instructor.
The instructor is Russell Doe, a certified financial planner and
independent registered investment advisor. He covers money
management, reducing taxes, retirement planning, understanding the
stock market and real estate market, reducing insurance costs and
creating a plan to achieve financial objectives.
