A team from the Pasadena Ice Skating Center, competing against 118 other teams, won the Ice Skating Institute annual World Championships last week in Southern California.
More than 800 medals were one by the PISC team, made up of 208 skaters ranging in age from 3-years-old to 73-years-old, during the six-day event.
More than 2,600 skaters from around the world performed on six ice surfaces in four ice skating centers located in Lakewood, Anaheim, Yorba Linda and Paramount.
The events included figure skating, freestyle, couples, pairs, dance, family and various team events.
More than 25 different types of events entertained spectators during the week-long event.
Randy Winship, team coach for PISC, recruited, organized and orchestrated the team members.
Located behind the Pasadena Center on Green Street, the PISC has been in operation for nearly 30 years.
Although the PISC’s ice surface is non regulation size, plans are in the works to enlarge it.
The Pasadena City Council is scheduled to vote on a new regulation size dual ice surface facility at its meeting on Monday.
The proposed new municipal facility would be open to the public and would offer programs not only to Pasadena residents, but to surrounding communities as well.
