Cal Phil's Vener Visits Amsterdam

California Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Victor Vener will be the guest conductor at a concert by the New Symphonic Experience on Sept. 4 at the world-renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Produced by the S. Robert and Denise Zeilstra Foundation, the performance will be the first free concert ever presented at the Concertgebouw in its 117-year history. The concert will be a private performance for a developmentally and physically disabled audience.

The New Symphonic Experience is conducted by Erik Waerts. Cal Phil Concert Master Pavel Farkas will be featured in John Williams’ “Three Pieces from Schindler’s List.” Dutch pianist Jan Vane will also be a featured artist on the concert.

Maestro Vener has conducted respected orchestras across the United States and abroad, most notably the Mozarteum Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival. This will be Vener’s conducting debut at the Concertgebouw.

“It’s always a thrill to play for new audiences,” Vener said. “I’m certainly excited about conducting in such a celebrated concert hall. There will definitely be a spiritual connection to musical history.”

After conducting at the Concertgebouw, Vener returns for a busy week preparing to present the Cal Phil’s final Festival on the Green concert of the summer, “Bernstein on Broadway,” with soprano Teri Bibb and baritone Kevin Early, on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden.
