LIGHT-POLE HEIGHT
The City Council introduced an amendment to the zoning code that
would increase the height limit for light poles atop parking
structures adjacent to residential zones from 8 feet to 16 feet.
WHAT IT MEANS
While the current law was meant to limit the amount of spillover
of unwanted light onto surrounding homes, the 8-foot restriction has
necessitated a larger number of light poles to sufficiently
illuminate the structures, creating an adverse visual impact,
according to a city staff report. The amendment would allow higher
light poles, which would theoretically limit the amount of poles
needed.
ZONING STANDARDS
The council introduced several changes to the city’s zoning code
that it will vote to approve at its next meeting.
The changes are the result of numerous public workshops and
incorporate state Department of Housing and Community Development
recommendations.
WHAT IT MEANS
The changes would adjust third-floor setback guidelines and reduce
density limits in eight areas throughout the city.
PUMPING CONTRACT
The council voted to increase a contract with a firm that has been
removing contaminated oil from Glendale Water and Power’s electrical
equipment.
WHAT IT MEANS
The contract extension with United Pumping Service, which will
increase the cost to the city by $200,000 to a total of $520,000,
will allow the continued cleanup of department equipment,
contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls. The equipment is being
stored in a temporary storage yard.
