Teachers, students, staff and alumni walked laps around the St. Francis High School track to earn money for Crestview Preparatory School during the school’s annual Walk-a-thon on Sunday, Oct. 23
Sponsors either paid for the number of laps walked or paid a flat fee.
This year the proceeds are going to upgrade the music and art rooms.
Walkers were treated to music and games by a disc jockey, homemade snacks, Fruit-a-Freeze bars, drinks and food from an In-N-Out Burger truck. There were prizes awarded for the number of laps walkers earned and for winners of relay contests.
Some students who solicited 20 or more sponsors also won prizes. Kindergartner Sebastian de Klerk gathered a total of 32 pledges.
This contest theme is special to Crestview as it is celebrating it’s 20th year.
Other students ambitiously walked the track for as many laps as they could. Fourth grade student Quinn Schwab walked 78 laps around the track, the equivalent of 19 1/2 miles, the record amount this year. Special mention should go to Kindergartner Conrad Jensen, who walked 38 laps, first grader Katie Kelman, who walked 48 laps, and second grader Abbie Kornafel, who walked 75 laps around the track.
The Crestview community walked a total of 5,167 laps, or 1,292 miles, the equivalent of a walk from La Cañada to Topeka, Kan.
