A 19-year-old Glendale man drowned Saturday in a kayaking accident at Big Bear Lake, officials said.

Karapet Aslanyan was kayaking at about 12:30 p.m. in Boulder Lake when his kayak overturned and he fell in the 37-degree waters, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office.

After being recovered from about 13 feet below the surface of the lake, Aslanyan was transported to Bear Valley Community Hospital, and then transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition, the coroner’s office said.

He died that same day at 4:32 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
