Three Glendale police officers were promoted to the rank of sergeant Jan. 12 at the Glendale Police Station.
Friends, family members and other officers joined the afternoon ceremony to celebrate the promotions.
Stewart Brackin, Michael Glassick and Steve Robertson were promoted and sworn in as sergeants in unison during the event.
After a speech and brief introduction by Police Chief Randy Adams, the officers were asked to introduce their family members and select loved ones to pin their badges on. After the sergeants had their badges pinned they each shared a few words with the audience.
Becoming a sergeant is a promotion that takes several years to attain and is very difficult to reach.
“Sergeant is a challenging promotional status because it’s the first promotional level,” Adams said. “We have 270 officers, so you can imagine the competition.”
The officers were overjoyed with their new promotions, since it takes between five to 20 years to make the first promotional level, Adams said.
“I’m ecstatic. It’s something we’ve all been looking forward to,” Brackin said.
For Glassick, who had always attended promotions and had imagined becoming a sergeant one day, the newly acquired badge he wore was a dream come true.
“It’s an awesome feeling you prepare for several years. You dream and you pray to be up there someday,” Glassick said.
“I’m very excited. I’m excited about supervising. I’ve enjoyed the past [19] years,” said Robertson.
