Curious George Curiously Enticing

“Curious George” the movie based on beloved children books written by Margaret Rey, was quite a surprise. Many people might think this movie to be as childish and simple as the books were. But this film is great. The Man in the Yellow Hat (voiced by Will Ferrell), now named Ted, works at a museum that is going bankrupt. He has an idea to go to Africa and find a lost idol in the form of a 40 foot ruby monkey. When Ted gets to the spot where the idol is said to be hidden he finds a three inch tall ruby monkey. Disappointed, he returns to the states secretly followed by a monkey he had befriended in the jungle. When he gets back to the museum he finds that publicity of the giant monkey discover has hit the papers and airways. The real monkey, Curious George, finally catches up to him and causes all kinds of trouble while they try to make the tiny ruby look 40 feet tall.
This was actually a great film. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was sweet, witty, and even has jokes just for adults. The animation was very good and the story was well thought out. I went into this movie thinking that only really young children would enjoy it but I was pleased to find I was wrong. There are science jokes that only adults would understand and monkey jokes that will make the smallest child giggle. This is really a good family film. Starring Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, Eugene Levy and Dick Van Dyke. Directed by Matthew O’Callaghan. I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars.
