Panthers take third in tourney

The Glendale Panthers Blue 12-year-old boys’ basketball team finished third in the Santa Clarita Scrap of the Valley Tournament with a 41-28 victory against the Santa Clarita Longhorns.

Dion Banoian led the Panthers with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Marlon Guzman finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Glendale, which got five points, seven steals and two assists from Suren Gyurgchyan.

Michael Muradyan had four points and three assists for the Panthers, who got four points and five rebounds from Aaron Castillo and two points from Artur Sargsyan.

In another tournament contest, Glendale suffered a 40-39 loss to the San Fernando Uptempo. Banoian had 18 points and nine rebounds for Glendale, which got 10 points and three assists from Gyurgchyan. Guzman had four points for the Panthers, who got four points and 11 rebounds from Castillo.

Glendale will next compete in the Great Easter Shootout in Upland in two weeks.
