St. James Fifth Graders Win Trip to Glendale Fire Picnic

Glendale Fire Department went to all Glendale schools and spoke with the fifth-grade classes about fire safety and what to do in case there is a fire in their homes.

Each student had to fill out answers and do activities in a Glendale Junior Fire Department workbook. After they turn those in, they had to take a written exam and then write an essay on fire safety. The students with the highest scores and the best essays were chosen to attend the Glendale Fire Department Junior Picnic.

St. James the Less Catholic School had six fifth-grade students attend the picnic. The students got to participate with lots of other fifth graders from all Glendale schools in a potato sack race and water balloon toss. Raffle tickets were handed out and prizes were awarded.

The highlight of the day was one of Glendale’s Fire Department engines soaked the kids with the hose. It was a fun event, and the kids had a great time.
