Pih Earns Eagle Scout Rank After Painting Valley Vista Preschool Walls in Montrose

Jeffrey William Pih recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout after completing his Eagle Scout Project, repainting two bathrooms at Valley Vista Preschool.

Pih, who was born on June 18, 1988 at Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, attended the Montrose preschool from 1991 to 1994. His project included repairing the wallpaper, refurbishing a storage room and painting colorful alphabet stencils on the walls.

His younger sister, Jillian, attended the school while he was completing his project.

He entered Cub Scouts in first grade with Pack 515 from Palm Crest Elementary. Soon after, he earned his Arrow of Light and joined Boy Scout Troop 509, where he immediately felt comfortable and focused. As a Boy Scout, Pih served the troop as a Patrol Leader, Bugler, Board of Review Leader, and Instructor.

Pih has participated in numerous Boy Scout events. He has enjoyed outings such as the High Sierra Horse Trip, Havasupai, Lost Valley, Cherry Valley, Joshua Tree, the Mount Whitney expedition, and Philmont Scout Ranch. He loved the beautiful waterfalls of Havasupai and climbing the rocks at Joshua Tree. During the summer of the Philmont expedition, he hiked over 100 miles, including training hikes.

Pih graduated this year from La Cañada High School, where he played varsity tennis since the ninth grade and was the team captain during this year’s winning season. As a number one doubles player, he has competed in prestigious tournaments such as The Ojai, and placed 3rd in the Rio Hondo League Individual Tournament. He has also been extremely active in the music department of the school. He has been playing the trumpet in band since seventh grade, and has been playing in the school’s jazz band since ninth grade. He has traveled extensively with the band, including trips to Eastern Europe and China. Pih earned awards such as “Most Outstanding Junior” and was the trumpet section leader during his senior year. Along with being the first chair trumpet player, Jeffrey has participated in the All-Southern Honor Band twice, and has marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day with the Tournament of Roses Honor band three times. Combining his love for children and his talents as a musician and an athlete, he currently teaches private trumpet lessons and is a children’s tennis instructor at the La Cañada country club. Pih will be attending University of California, San Diego this fall.

He is thankful for the hard work of fellow scouts, troop leaders, and volunteers for their loving support of his endeavors. He has learned multitudes of valuable lessons from Scouting for the present as well as the future.
