Sloan Runs For Water Board

La Crescenta resident Robert Sloan is running for what he says will be his last term on the Foothill Municipal Water District board of directors.

Sloan, who has served on the board since 1998, cited his experience with water issues as his asset in staying on the job.

He moved to La Crescenta 50 years ago, and worked as a secretary-auditor for the Crescenta Valley Water District for 19 years. He also served on its board for four years. He was appointed to the Foothill Municipal Water District board of directors in 1998 to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Robert Williams.

The local man said his board serves some 80,000 people in member agencies, including CV Water District. Foothill serves as an affiliate of the Metropolitan Water District, and delivers purchased water to local agencies.

Sloan said that Foothill provides from 40 to 60 percent of the water supply, depending on the season. The Foothill representative on the MWD board is Jim Edwards, former mayor of La Cañada.

Water remains a major issue in the foothills, and he wants to continue to serve La Crescenta as its representative, Sloan stated.

Deadline for voter registration is Oct. 23. Absentee ballots can be obtained by mail up to seven days before the election, and in person after that. Absentees must be returned by Election Day.
