Choir members from Holy Redeemer School in Montrose helped usher in the holiday season with song at the Los Angeles County tree lighting ceremony on Monday evening. The event was held at the Los Angeles County Music Center and hosted by the L.A. Board of Supervisors with County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich emceeing.
Holy Redeemer fifth grade teacher Ms. Jennifer Madigan and her class of 22 talented young performers were part of the annual event which included additional music from the jazz group Something Smooth and the lighting of the 40 foot Christmas tree. Complimentary hot chocolate was offered to warm the crowd that gathered to celebrate the occasion.
According to Communications Director Tony Bell, this was the first time that the choir was asked to be part of the festivities. “We thought that they would bring an artistic touch to the ceremony,” said Bell.
The choir sang a variety of Christmas melodies and at times were joined by onlookers and family members who had come to enjoy the celebration.
This was the first time that Holy Redeemer participated in the tree lighting ceremony and according to Madigan, the children had a great time. “They practiced [for the event] and enjoyed meeting Supervisor Antonovich, despite their nervousness,” she said. “He was so nice and gave us a commendation that we now have hanging up.”
Madigan recognized that being part of the tree lighting ceremony was a huge honor that they are grateful to have been a part of. “It was a fantastic opportunity,” she said.
