Under the direction of new LCHS drama teacher Lacey Stanley, the LCHS Drama Department will perform the play “Brighton Beach Memoirs” by Neil Simon.
This is the first play of what is known as the “Eugene Trilogy.” Brighton Beach Memoirs is a semi-autobiographical comedy set in Brooklyn in 1937.
Simon’s alter ego, Eugene Jerome, is an irrepressible Jewish adolescent. He lives in a modest house with his father, mother, older brother, widowed aunt and her two daughters.
Eugene, an aspiring writer who records everything in his journal, or “memoirs,” is merely trying to get along with his family and, perhaps, learn a thing or two about girls from his older brother Stanley.
There are two separate casts that will perform in this production: Cast A will perform on Thursday and Saturday nights, while Cast B will perform on Wednesday and Friday nights.
The cast members are (Cast A) A.J. Blumenfeld as Eugene); Ben Goldsmith as Stanley; Roy Manukyan as Jack; Hailey Horne as Kate; Jensen Higley as Nora; Carrie Rhymer as Laurie; and Olivia Smith as Blanche.
Cast B is Josh Adler as Eugene; Walter Rodriguez as Stanley; Kevin Austin as Jack; Jessica Phillips as Kate; Carolyn Husa as Nora; Annie Bonaccorso as Laurie; and Molly Teodo as Blanche.
Performances will be run Jan. 10 to 13.
All performances begin at 7:30 p.m., except for an early performance at 5 p.m. on Jan. 13.
Tickets are $15 for orchestra seating and $12.50 for balcony seating. Tickets are available at the door.
All performances will take place in the LCHS auditorium, at 4463 Oak Grove Drive in La Cañada.
