Academy Awards Viewing Party at Alex Theatre

On Oscar Sunday, Feb. 25, the Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA) and the Alex Theatre will co-present the first annual Red Carpet Gala: For People Who Make Movies and People Who Watch Them, an Academy Awards viewing party to be held at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. The Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will be broadcast live on the theater’s movie screen for what will be the biggest event of its type in Los Angeles. The Red Carpet Gala offers an exciting alternative to staying in on LA’s most anticipated night. Attendees are invited to dress in their evening best for the walk down the red carpet, where they will be greeted by “paparazzi” photographers and fashion commentators en route to their entrance into the grand venue. Partygoers will have a chance to mingle with other guests while they enjoy a glass of wine or champagne, hors d’oeuvres and desserts and celebrate as their favorite films of the year are honored. The festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. and don’t conclude until the worldwide Academy Awards audience finds out which film will take the Best Picture Oscar. The Set Decorators Society of America is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of the set decorating profession.
Founded in 1993, SDSA provides fellowship and networking opportunities for its members, publishes Set Décor Magazine, holds seminars and educational forums for small businesses and participates in outreach to the community in support of like-minded service organizations. The Alex Theatre has been a Los Angeles area landmark since 1925. Originally a vaudeville house and movie palace, today the 1,381-seat venue serves as a premier performing arts and entertainment center, hosting events ranging from dance, musical and theatrical performances to classic movie screenings and film and television shoots. Tickets for the Red Carpet Gala are $75 each and tax-deductible. They can be purchased at the Alex Theatre Box Office, open seven days a week from noon to 6 p.m., by calling 243-ALEX (2539) or by visiting www.alextheatre.org. The Alex Theatre is located at 216 North Brand Blvd. in Glendale.
