Thanksgiving Day services planned

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church in the Foothills and St. Luke’s Anglican Church will hold Thanksgiving prayer services at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at Lutheran Church in the Foothills.

Gather with other community members for a Community Thanksgiving Celebration” at 7 p.m. Nov. 20.

This event is hosted each year by the Glendale Religious Leaders Association and features music and the spoken word presented by various leaders and members of local churches.

Each year the event is held at a different church, and this year it will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 1101 N. Ave. Central in Glendale.

Church of Christ, Scientist, will hold Thanksgiving Day services at 10 a.m. Nov. 22 at the church, at 600 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada. Christian Science congregations throughout the nation welcome friends and neighbors for Thanksgiving Day services, during which an opportunity is given for verbal expressions of gratitude.

St. Bede the Venerable Parish will hold Thanksgiving Day services at 9 a.m. Nov. 22.

Thanksgiving dinner to be served

At 11:30 a.m. Nov. 18, La Crescenta Presbyterian Church will be offering a Thanksgiving dinner for the community and its church members. The church will be meeting in one service as an entire congregation at 10 a.m. The dinner will follow.

The dinner will be in Koopmans Hall.

Church of the Lighted Window is having a craft faire from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 17 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18.

Hanukkah Party at Temple Sinai

Hanukkah, known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day holiday which commemorates the victory of the Maccabees against persecution, the re-dedication of the Jerusalem Temple and the miracle of the oil that burned there for eight days.

This year, Hanukkah begins at sundown on Dec. 4. The annual Temple Sinai of Glendale Hanukkah Dinner and Party will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 8.

Guests will enjoy such traditions as eating latkes (potato pancakes) and other Hanukkah foods, menorah lighting, playing the dreidel game and singing Hanukkah songs.

Reservations must be made by Dec 1.

‘Oratorio Messiah’ Concert Dec. 8

Antioch Presbyterian Church of La Crescenta and World Vision present a concert performance of Handel’s “Oratorio Messiah” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert will be performed in Lanterman Auditorium, at 449 Cornishon Ave. in La Cañada.

Bundle Sunday in Glendale Sunday

The St. Vincent de Paul Society truck will be in the Church of the Incarnation’s parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 18.

Bring used but usable clothing and other household items to assist the needy.
