OAKMONT LEAGUE RAISES FUNDS WITH FASHION SHOW

The Oakmont League of Glendale will be raising funds for scholarships and more than 30 charities when it presents its fashion show “Imagine” on Feb. 28 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive in Universal City.

Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. for social time and viewing of opportunity prizes. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by fashions featuring designer Lourdes Chavez and designer fashions from Robert Ellis Showroom and gentlemen’s fashions by Sy Devor.

Mr. Blackwell is the honored guest.

The event will culminate with drawing of opportunity prizes and the finale drawing for three winners who will receive a one-week stay at either Kona, Hawaii, which includes a $500 travel voucher, a private home on Balboa Island or Lawrence Welk’s Resort Villas.

L’AUREOLE COORDINATING PERENNIAL ROSE LUNCHEON

L’aureole’s annual Perennial Rose Luncheon and Fashion Show is scheduled for March 1, in the Mountain View Room of The Castaway in Burbank.

Margaret Clarke, president, invites guests to come at 11 a.m. for the social hour. A luncheon will be at noon.

Fashions will be from Draper’s and Damon’s in Pasadena. Carolyn Robinson will be the narrator.

Modeling will be local residents, B.J. Ottenfeld, Shirley de Perini, Grace Williams, Laurie Guay, Susan Skiffington, Delia Nogena, Jennifer Savant and Betsy Savant.

Proceeds will help support youth programs of the Glendale Salvation Army, including the Zone after-school program for middle school students and the summer youth camp.

L’aureole was founded in 1967 and named for the Northern Lights.

CITY MANAGER IS SPEAKER FOR GLENDALE BEAUTIFUL

Glendale Beautiful will meet at a new location for its next meeting on Tuesday. Members will gather at the Glendale Elks Lodge, 120 E. Colorado St., Glendale.

Social time begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at noon.

The speaker will be City Manager Jim Starbird.

The cost to attend is $14. Reservations can be made by calling Gladys Wymore at (818) 246-3634. Guests and the public are welcome.

SWEET ADELINES CHAPTER OFFERS SINGING VALENTINES

Verdugo Hills Showtime Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, will again present “Singing Valentines” service.

For $50, recipients will be treated to a love-song serenade performed in four-part harmony by a women’s barbershop quartet at the location and time of your choice. Also offered is a personalized musical greeting on audiotape for only $15.

Verdugo Hills Showtime Chorus rehearses at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Blair IB Magnet School, 1201 S. Marengo Ave., Pasadena. Rehearsals are always open.

Sweet Adelines International is a nonprofit women’s organization dedicated to the preservation of the American art form of four-part a cappella singing in the barbershop style by sharing its music with the public through education, performance and community outreach efforts.

SONS OF NORWAY PLANNING COD, MEATBALL DINNER

Sons Of Norway Edvard Grieg Lodge #74 of Glendale will have its annual Norwegian Torsk and Meatball Dinner on Feb. 23 at the American Legion Hall, 4011 La Crescenta Ave., La Crescenta.

Social hour is at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Reservations are required by Feb. 18 and can be made by calling (818) 249-8102 or (626) 303-6465.

Torsk is Norwegian poached cod. Meatballs are homemade by the members from a Norwegian recipe. Homemade Lefse, a traditional Norwegian flat bread made from potatoes, will be served. Norwegian pickled beets and a special dessert are included. Musical entertainment will follow the dinner.

Membership includes and serves Glendale, La Crescenta, Montrose, Burbank, the San Fernando Valley, Pasadena, Eagle Rock, Pomona, La Verne, Whittier, Los Angeles and surrounding communities.

ENTRY DEADLINE FOR BRAS FOR A CAUSE IS FRIDAY

The deadline is Friday for entries in the annual Soroptimist International of Glendale Bras for a Cause.

The event begins at 6 p.m. March 1 at the Oakmont Country Club.

This year’s theme is “Bras for a Cause Goes on Vacation.” Your bra may fit that theme, but it does not have to. Anyone can enter a decorated bra. You are encouraged to be outrageous, and to think outside the box. Bras should be submitted by Friday to Beverly Ann Flowers at 1150 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale. Soroptimist International of Glendale is a women’s service organization. Funds raised will go to breast cancer services at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Verdugo Hills Hospital and the Marcia Ray Breast Center at Glendale Memorial Hospital as well as to other Glendale charities that improve the lives of women and girls.
