Hoover High School PTSA had a wonderful “Super Heroes” Founder’s Day event, said Kathy Van Houten, PTSA president.

TOLL MIDDLE

The PTA is looking for interested parents of students who will be attending Toll next year to volunteer to serve on the PTA executive board, said Shirley Cuentas, PTA president.

BALBOA ELEMENTARY

The “Everybody Loves Reading” event will be on Friday, said Sara Khosravi, PTA president.

Residents will read to the Balboa students throughout the school day and stress the importance of reading.

The sixth-graders are very busy. Every Wednesday, the sixth-grade parents host the student store. Thanks to Angela Laws, Lorna Lopez, Lisa Deyell and Khosravi for organizing the store.

The Valentine candy sales are completed. Thanks to Katrin Balaian and Anjik Minaeian for coordinating the events. For more information, call the school office at (818) 241-1801.

FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY

The spring cookie dough fundraiser ends Thursday, said Ibet Acevedo, PTA president.

There will be no school on March 7 due to Staff Development Day.

The school will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Week with the annual Scholastic Book Fair from March 10 to 14.

In lieu of the monthly PTA meeting, a Family Reading Night will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 11. Kids can come in their pajamas and join us for book readings by Disney VoluntEARS, plus free popcorn and beverages. Everyone is welcome to read or purchase books. All proceeds will benefit the classrooms and library.

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY

Honorary Service Award recipients honored during the 2008 PTA Founder’s Day celebration were Melody Moradi, PTA treasurer and parent of a sixth-grader at Jefferson, and Linda Jones, Jefferson school nurse.

MARK KEPPEL ELEMENTARY

The fifth- and sixth-grade committee is having a Scholastic Book Fair from now through Friday in the school library.

March 4 is a minimum day for Track D, said Betsy Ames, PTA president. The students will be off track until April 7.

Everyone is invited to the Family Reading Night at 6 p.m. Thursday in the school cafeteria. The Book Fair will also be open for families to shop for books together.

PTA and Make Keppel Special have hired artist Ann Marie Smith to paint a mural along the wall of the third level of the playground. Take a trip down to the third level and see how the mural has brightened up the area.

The Mark Keppel PTA supports the California State PTA’s campaign to “Flunk the Budget” proposed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. More information can be found at www.capta.org.
