WWII veteran to speak March 9

Orthodox Jew-turned-Baptist minister and World War II veteran Dr. Mike Friedman will guest-preach at Montrose Community Church at 10 a.m. March 9.

His sermon is titled “The Man for Whom Christ Died.”

Stations of the Cross to be walked

Stations of the Cross will be walked at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 29 at Holy Redeemer. After stations, visit the parish hall for a Lenten meal prepared by Holy Redeemer Boy Scout Troop 317.

St. Joseph’s Table Celebration

Holy Redeemer’s second St. Joseph’s Table celebration will take place following the 10 a.m. Mass to 7 p.m. on March 9.

To offset the cost of the event, the church is holding fundraisers at Doña Maria Mexican Resturant, at 729 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada, from noon to 9 p.m. Feb. 29; and at Tortas Mexico, at 2041 Verdugo Blvd. in Montrose, from 5 to 10 p.m. March 3 to 6.

Mention Holy Redeemer St. Joseph’s Table when ordering, and a percentage of sales will go to the event.

Prosperity offered at Unity Church

Unity Church of the Valley is offering a new class called “The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity” based on the book by retired Unity Church of the Valley minister Catherine Ponder.

The class is held 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the church, at 2817 Montrose Ave. in La Crescenta.

Each class will last an hour and is being given on a love offering basis.

Three classes remain in series

Dr. Steve Simpson, one of the authors of the new book “What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew About Sex,” will offer a five-week series on the subject.

The classes will be held in the Rectory of St. Luke’s of the Mountains Anglican Church, at 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta, at 10 a.m. Sundays.

Topics are:

March 3: “Obstacles to Healthy, Holy Sexuality.”

March 10: “Embracing God’s Gift of Sex”

March 17: “Sex, God and Christian Community.”

Chabad Mommy & Me program offered

Chabad of Glendale and the Foothill Communities offers a Mommy & Me program at the chabad at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

Meet and spend time with other moms living in the area while the little ones enjoy new friendships and quality playtime.

Children are introduced to basic Jewish values and traditions. These are integrated through art, music and movement in a warm, creative atmosphere.

The program is offered for children as young as 6 months.

The chabad is at 249 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale.

Post-Abortion Healing Seminar

Crescenta Valley Community Church’s Post-Abortion Healing Seminar (PAHS) is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through April 16 at the home of Laura Whyley.

Men’s breakfast, ‘Labor of Love’

First Baptist Church of La Crescenta presents a men’s breakfast the first Saturday of every month at 7 a.m. in the church.

The breakfast is open to all men, not just to those who are working with the Labor of Love.

Enjoy a great breakfast and devotion. The cost for breakfast is $5.

Then after breakfast, those who want to, will take off to do odd jobs around the houses of those who need it.

Three Sunday morning courses

Adults are able to choose from three courses on Sunday mornings. All classes are held on the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church campus, at 2902 Montrose Ave. in La Crescenta.

 “What Did Jesus Do on a Rainy Day?”

Led by Jim Larson, this course explores the connection between the Old and New Testaments through Jesus’ teachings, particularly his use of quotes from the Torah, the Psalms and the prophets.

The class is held 9 a.m. Sundays.

 “Raising Children of Faith”

Led by Ashley Fernandez and Carrie Hoffman, this class leads parents through the Home Builders Couples Series. Learn how to deal with the hard issues of parenting and build a home that honors God. The class is on Sundays and begins at 9 a.m.

 “Jesus’ Words to You Today”

Taught by elder George Buehler, this class focuses on Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.

What would Jesus say to you if he were here in the flesh and you could sit at his feet?

Engage with Jesus and the Holy Spirit in study and contemplation. Classes are held Sundays at 10:45 a.m.

St. Luke’s Soup Group ministry

Soup Group is a ministry to the seniors of St. Luke’s of the Mountains, providing an opportunity to share communion, fellowship and friendship.

Soup Group meets at 11:30 a.m. the third Wednesday of the month in the parish hall to celebrate the Holy Eucharist followed by lunch.

Transportation is provided if needed.

Help needed in planning event

The interns of St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church have been discussing and planning for a very interesting coffeehouse-type event that the church hopes will take place on the third Thursday of each month. Naturally, trying to create an aesthetically pleasing environment (complete with coffeehouse-type food and drink) will require more work than the three interns can handle on their own.

Hunger Ministry needs food items

Every first Sunday, Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church congregants are invited to bring canned goods and other nonperishable foods for the Food Pantry that operates out of Tujunga United Methdoist Church. Place your contributions in the colorful box located downstairs in Fellowship Hall.

Bereavement support group

Is there a such a thing as “Good Grief” and how do you know it’s being experienced when one grieves? Is it possible to experience bereavement and now grieve?

Join St. Bede Parish’s Parish’s six-week series for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Sessions include: “The Tasks and Process of Grieveing,” “What Is Good Grief and Bad Grief?” “Coping With Lonliness and Depression,” “Stress Management,” “Learning to Live Alone” and “Learning to Let Go.” The series begins April 14 and meets for six Mondays, April 21, 28, May 5, 12 and 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Bede Catholic Church Catholic Center, at 215 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.
