Founders Day a ‘mad’ event

Crescenta Valley High School’s PTSA was “mad” about this year’s service award honorees who were recognized at the annual Founders Day celebration in the school’s Falcon Café on Tuesday night.

The committee chose the theme “Mad About You” for the festivities, decking out the cafeteria with brightly colored balloons, Mardi Gras beads and masks. Prior to the program beginning, the CVHS Jazz Band Combo, under the direction of Mathew Schick, set the tone for the night.

Following the presentation of colors by the CVHS AFJROTC, the school’s PTSA President Lynn Miyamoto welcomed guests and began the program, which was highlighted with performances by the school’s drama department. They gave a preview of their upcoming musical “Once on this Island,” which opens next week.

After some brief PTSA business and a buffet dinner catered by Cathy Turansky, the Honorary Service recipients were presented. These awardees were recognized for volunteering their time for the betterment of the school and community.

This year’s recipients were Janie Antista, Tami Farwell, Coleen Godwin, Chris Green, Jessica S. Kim, Nora Matosian, Greg Neat, Connie Schaefer, Kathy Strangis, Orenda Tuason and Dennis van Bremen.

The evening ended with a call to action by Miyamoto for attendees to support the Glendale Council PTA’s “Flunk the Budget” campaign. The letter-writing drive is to pressure state legislators to properly fund California’s education budget. For more information on “Flunk the Budget,” visit www.cvfalcons.com.
