The Glendale YMCA will be having a grand opening and ribbon cutting of the youth health and fitness center at 4 p.m. at 140 N. Louise St., Glendale. The Glendale Homeowners Coordinating Council will meet at 7 p.m. at the Glendale Unified School District administration building, board room on the first floor, 223 N. Jackson St., Glendale. Gregory Krikorian, president of the Glendale Board of Education, is the guest speaker. His topic is “The State of Glendale Public Schools” and he will discuss the outlook for school funding and progress of facility improvements. He will also take questions from the audience. Glendale Beautiful will have its annual Arbor Day Program beginning at 10 a.m. with a coffee social and program at 10:30 a.m. at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy Drive, Glendale. The Rotary Club of Crescenta Valley will host speaker Bruce Philpott who will present his plan that he believes would streamline the Glendale Fire Department saving the taxpayers money while being more efficient. Forest Lawn Glendale presents “A Visit with Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci” at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Memorial Terrace, 1712 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale. The Glendale Community College Theater Arts, Dance and Music Department presents the classical musical “Fiddler on the Roof” at 8 p.m. at 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale. Poet and educator Gregory Djanikian will read from his latest book of poetry, “So I Will Till the Ground,” at 7 p.m. at the Glendale Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St., Glendale. The book deals with aspects of Armenian history and family life, the genocide of 1915, the ensuing diaspora and the emigration of the author and his family from Egypt to the United States.
