COLLEGE UPDATE:
GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level.

Jeanine Deno (Crescenta Valley High, 2004) junior guard, Cal Baptist women’s basketball: Deno, the 2004 All-Area Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year, scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the way to an 80-62 Golden State Athletic Conference road win against Concordia on Monday.
The Lancers ended the regular season at 16-11 and 10-10 in conference. Cal Baptist recorded its best conference record since 1989-90 and the most wins in conference since 1987-88.
Through Monday, Deno is averaging 13.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. She’s also been the team’s high scorer in seven of Cal Baptist’s 23 games.
The Lancers will next face Azusa Pacific University in a first-round conference tournament game at 7:30 p.m. today at Citrus College.
Matt Oliver (Crescenta Valley High, 2004) senior guard, Azusa Pacific University men’s basketball: Oliver, a former All-Pacific League Most Valuable Player, finished with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists Friday to lead Azusa Pacific University to an 85-81 win against visiting Cal Baptist in a Western State Conference contest.
Oliver is averaging 6.7 points per game in 26 games played this season.
Azusa Pacific University (21-9, 14-6 in conference) will next compete against Fresno Pacific in a conference tournament game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Michelle Summers (Hoover High, 2004) senior third baseman, Southeast Missouri State softball: An ice storm caused Southeast Missouri State’s home doubleheader against Evansville to be canceled Tuesday. The cold weather might be the only thing to cool off Summers, who helped the Redhawks (7-5) capture the All-Missouri Strike Out Against Cancer Classic on Sunday. They defeated Missouri State, 3-1, before using four home runs to defeat Saint Louis, 7-3.
In the Missouri State contest, Summers had two hits and drove in a run before notching two hits and a run scored against Saint Louis.
Through Sunday, Summers was batting a team-best .486 (18 for 37) with two home runs and nine runs batted in. She registered five doubles to go along with a .784 slugging percentage in 12 games played.
Amanda Peek (Crescenta Valley High, 2004) junior catcher, Cal State Northridge softball: Peek, the 2004 All-Area Player of the Year, has gotten off to a nice start despite the early season struggles of the Matadors.
Through Sunday, Peek is batting a team-best .519 (27 for 52) with one home run and a team-best 10 runs batted in. She’s registered six doubles, two triples and has scored nine runs for CSUN (7-12).
Peek, a two-time All-Big West Conference first-team pick, owns a .769 slugging percentage and a .990 fielding percentage. She’s recorded 96 putouts and five assists in 19 games played.
CSUN will next face North Dakota University in a nonconference home doubleheader at noon Friday.
Dustin Emmons (Crescenta Valley High, 2007) freshman pitcher, UC Riverside baseball: Emmons, the News-Press Male Athlete of the Year last year, has gotten playing time in three of his team’s 10 games thus far.
UC Riverside has struggled to the tune of a 3-7 mark, but Emmons has done the most with his opportunities.
On Monday, in a 6-0 Riverside win against La Salle, Emmons pitched a perfect eighth inning of relief.
It was his second appearance on the mound, as he’s now pitched two innings, given up no runs or hits, walked one and tallied a strike out.
His first chance at college baseball came Feb. 26 in an 11-4 defeat to Pepperdine.
Emmons was inserted as a pinch hitter in the ninth and singled to short in his first-ever college at bat.
