YMCA announces award recipients

The Crescenta-Cañada YMCA this week announced Jack and Sally Samuelson and the late Robert and Doris Samuelson as the recipients of the organization’s Pacesetter Award.

The award is presented to people or organizations that set the pace in leadership and philanthropy.

The family established the Samuelson Charitable Foundation Inc. in 1996, which directs funds to Christian agencies, churches, substance-abuse service centers and educational and theological institutions.

They are also credited with playing a major role in bringing the YMCA to La Cañada as major financial contributors to the La Cañada and Verdugo Hills branches.

The Samuelsons have received numerous community leadership awards for family involvement in a number of local nonprofit groups.

Foundation director resigns

Sharon Collins, executive director of the Glendale Community Foundation, has resigned from her position after 11 months with the organization due to a death in the family.

The foundation’s board of trustees will begin a search for a new executive director immediately, said Michael Seaton, president of the foundation’s board.

Individuals who are interested in applying for the executive director position at the foundation should send a cover letter and resume to the Glendale Community Foundation, P.O. Box 313, Glendale, CA 91209.
