GLENDALE — Imagine if Crescenta Valley High boys’ golfer Justin Yu was completely familiar with the layout of De Bell Municipal Golf Course.

Though it’s not Yu’s home course, he made himself at home Tuesday afternoon during a Pacific League Division A match at the Burbank course.

Yu, the league’s defending individual champion, finished with a five-under-par 66 to help the Falcons win the five-team match. He finished with four birdies, two eagles and 12 pars to help the Falcons improve to 12-1, 8-0 in league with three more Division A matches remaining.

“Justin’s playing real good golf right now,” said Crescenta Valley Coach John Pehar, who got a 73 from Josh Ward and a 74 from Kory Barkley. “He’s a very good golfer.”

Crescenta Valley, winner of three consecutive league championships, shot a 366 on the 5,631-yard course. Arcadia took second (409), followed by Burbank (432), Glendale (466) and Burroughs (472).

Yu, a senior, got off to a tremendous start. He birdied the first three holes before he notched eagles on the 11th and 13th holes.

“[Justin’s] improved because he’s been playing lately in amateur tournaments, and that’s helped him improve immensely,” Pehar said. “The greens were soft, but the ball rolled fairly fast. He took advantage of the greens.”

Michael Timpson had a 76 for the Falcons, who got 77s from Michael McKinley and Dominic Lingua.

Glendale turned to Tammy Panich, who shot a respectable 80. Matthew Zari had a 91 for the Nitros, who got a 92 from Michael Reyes.

Yu had an eagle on the par-four 11th hole and on the par-four 13th hole to help him earn low-medalist honors.

Ward finished with a pair of birdies and 12 pars, while Barkley had four birdies and nine pars. Lingua had five birdies.
