There are no couch potatoes at Valley View Elementary and that included parents. On March 21, kids from all grades showed their Olympian skills as they raced on a tricycle, walked a balance beam, climbed an inflatable ladder and dove down a bouncy slide.

All the while there were being followed by a parent volunteer.

The annual Valley View Obstacle Course challenge had kids laughing so much they didn’t realize they were exercising and improving their health. The course has been an event at the school for many years but this year is the first time it was sponsored by the school’s Foundation. This was also the first year an inflatable obstacle course was included with the other challenges.

The purpose of the course is to not only getting kids moving but to get them thinking about strategy as well.

They have to think ahead as they go from obstacle to the next.

At the end they are rewarded with water, fresh fruit and energy bars all donated by Vons, Ralphs, Sparkletts and the Wade and McKiernan families.
