Police surge to finish strongly in Las Vegas

The Glendale Police Department’s “Baker to Vegas” team captured their highest finish in 20 years during an annual 120-mile relay race this weekend.

The contest pitted 245 teams of runners from law enforcement agencies around the world against one another in a road race between Baker and Las Vegas.

Glendale’s squad, competing this year for the 20th time, came in second place in their division — among departments with 300 or fewer officers on the force — cutting 20 minutes off their predicted finish time at 15 hours and 47 minutes.

“This is the best place we’ve come in, which is nice for a 20-year celebration,” Officer Tim Feeley said.

The team included 20 runners, four alternates and about 35 people who went along on the trip as support staff for the team.
