Association to host annual fundraiser

The Glendale Assn. for the Retarded and its foundation will host their 17th annual fundraiser, “Derby Day: Run for the Roses,” in the Royal Crest Room from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pickwick Banquet Center in Burbank.

Derby Day is a “Southern Style Affair,” featuring a buffet luncheon, a silent and live auction. Guests will be made to feel like they have a front-row seat at Churchill Downs while watching taped horse races on 10-foot screens and wager “Derby Dollars” on five races, including the live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby. Proceeds benefit GAR Services at the Glendale Assn. for the Retarded. For more information, call (818) 242-2434.

Taste of Montrose is this weekend

The second annual Taste of Montrose will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Montrose Shopping Park.

The event will benefit Crescenta Valley High School’s Prom Plus.

Tasters will be able to sample food from local restaurants. Taste of Montrose will be held in conjunction with the shopping park’s Wags ‘n’ Whiskers, Kids ‘n’ Kritters event and the weekly Harvest Market. Tickets are $20.

Rotary Club to hold fundraising gala

The Rotary Club of Glendale will hold its first gala fundraising event on May 30 to benefit the Boy Scouts of America’s “Learning for Life” program.

This program teaches life skills, such as how to balance a checkbook, to more than 2,500 young adults in Glendale.

The event will be held at the Hilton Glendale. Tickets are $85 per person. The organization is also soliciting donations for the event’s silent and live auctions.
