BMW plows through parking garage

A 38-year-old woman suffered minor injuries Thursday evening after her BMW sedan plowed through the back wall of a North Kenwood Street apartment parking garage, across an alleyway and into a parked car on the other side before pinning itself into the next building.

The woman, whom Glendale Police did not identify, complained only of minor soreness to her shoulder caused by the seat belt, Officer Jay Katska said. No other injuries were reported.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene at 6:11 p.m. after the woman, who was trying to enter the parking garage from 531 N. Kenwood St., apparently slipped her foot off the brake and onto the BMW 750iL’s accelerator, plowing through the wood-framed and stucco wall at an unknown speed in what police initially deemed an accident, Katska said.

The scene attracted dozens of nearby residents and onlookers as the woman stood near the car holding her hand to her forehead as she spoke on a cellphone. It was unclear how much damage was caused to the other building and parked car, Katska said.

Police are holding weekend checkpoint

The Glendale Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint from 7:30 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to raise the level of public awareness and inform residents about the efforts used to identify and apprehend impaired drivers.

The checkpoint will be staffed by officers from several police agencies belonging to the “Avoid the 40 Los Angeles County DUI Task Force.”
