CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES

Family Fun SaturdaysMay 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7, 2 p.m. each date. La Cañada Flintridge Library, 4545 Oakwood Ave., La Cañada, offers this series, with each day featuring a different theme. May 10, America’s Multicultural Music Exotic — musical instruments from far away places (Age 4+); May 17, Mystery of Volcanoes Adventure — science, eruptions and real lava (Age 5+); May 24, Storybook Land Fairytales — songs, dance and captivating storytelling (Age 3+); May 31, Pirate Show Excitement — humor, adventure (Age 4+); June 7, Dinosaur Mysteries Science — history, and hands on fossil hunting (Age 5+). CLASSES

‘Colorful Edibles’ gardening class — 10 a.m. to noon, May 24. Descanso Gardens in La Cañada offers a class taught by Jeff Delzell, Descanso’s container display specialist. Plants that are both edible and colorful will be emphasized, as well as which plants are best grown in containers, companion plants and care. Fees: $20 ($15 Descanso members). Descanso Hosts African Violet Show & Sale May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hundreds of African violets will be judged by experts and exhibited at Descanso Gardens during this show and sale sponsored the Montrose African Violet Society.

Second Annual Taste Of Montrose May 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second annual Taste of Montrose event will be held on Sunday, May 4. The Taste of Montrose provides ticket holders with a sample of the fare from many of the restaurants located in the Montrose area. Tickets are $20 and will be available along Honolulu Avenue on the day of the event. To reserve tickets, call (818) 248-2740. Proceeds benefit Crescenta Valley High School’s Prom Plus committee.

13th Annual Historic Home Tour May 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Sunland Tujunga Coordinating Council with the Little Landers Historical Society presents the 13th Annual Historic Homes, Garden and Landmarks Tour. This year along with five extraordinary and unique homes and a local landmark, the first Verdugo Hills High School Student Art Exhibit will be held at the McGroarty Art Center during the hours of the home tour from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Tickets for this event are $20 each, children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased in advance. Mother’s Day activities at Descanso May 10-11. Brunch, music and roses highlight Mother’s Day weekend at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada. The Angels of Venice perform on harp, flute, cello, hammered dulcimer and percussion instruments from noon to 1 p.m., and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.; the Kids’ Mother’s Day Craft Table will keep the children busy from noon to 3 p.m., and, Mother’s Day Brunch, hosted by Patina Catering, will be served in Descanso’s Rose Pavilion at 9 and 10:30 a.m., noon, and 1:30 p.m. Brunch prices are $45 adults ($38 for Descanso members), $15 for children ages 4-10, and free for children 3 and under. Reservations must be made in advance by calling Patina at (818) 790-3663. Mother’s Day activities take place on both Saturday and Sunday.

10th Anniversary, reunion swing dance May 23, at 8 p.m. Swing Inc. is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a reunion dance. To celebrate, Swing Inc. is seeking any former dancers from the series. Former dancers can contact Swing Inc. at SwingIncorporated@yahoo.com. The 10th Anniversary dance takes place at the Green Hotel at 50 E. Green St. in Pasadena. A free dance lesson is at 8 p.m.; the live band plays at 9 p.m. Admission is being kept at the 1998 price of $8 plus a $4 beverage minimum. All ages are admitted and all swing dancers are welcome.
