Twenty Years Ago

Two weeks after two local mothers and their young daughters were killed in a tragic accident, it was reported that more than $9,000 had been collected for their memorial fund from around the state. Patricia Wing Carr, 36, her daughter Caren, 6, and Valerie Cramer, 32, and her 9-year-old daughter Brianna lost their lives on July 13, 1988 when they were struck down by a drunk driver as they stood on a “safety island” on Cañada Boulevard awaiting a green light to cross the street as pedestrians.

Joe Scardino of La Crescenta succeeded Mike Silvas as president of the Crescenta-Cañada Junior Chamber of Commerce for the 1978-79 club year.

Forty Years Ago

Just back in town after a vacation trip to New York and New Jersey were Alan Raphael of the Typewriter Center in Montrose and his wife Susan. While in New York, the couple spent a day at NBC Studios where Mrs. Raphael participated in a quiz show and won $300.

Fifty Years Ago

Anderson Brothers announced the Aug. 3, 1958 grand opening of their 86-home development, Glenwood Oaks, with choice homesites and custom plans available, priced from $24,600. To get to the development, Foothills residents were advised to drive south on Pennsylvania Avenue to Honolulu, west to Boston and left across the bridge to Glenwood Oaks.
