ALS support meetings scheduled

The next meeting of the support group for people with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), their families and friends takes place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.16 at Lamanda Park Library at 140 S. Altadena Dr. in Pasadena. Support groups are provided by The ALS Association, Greater Los Angeles Chapter and are free of charge.

Hospital announces annual fundraiser

The Women’s Council of Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation will host the 25th Annual Main Event, “Dreams of Fall,” at the Glendale Hilton Hotel at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. The hospital’s annual fundraising event will include dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and live entertainment.

The funds raised at this year’s Main Event will be used for the hospital’s emergency room, primarily for the purchase of telemetry and pediatric equipment.

Last year, the event raised more than $220,000 toward the purchase of digital mammography equipment for VHH. The Women’s Council is the number one contributor to the VHH Foundation.

Individual tickets to the Main Event cost $150 and table sponsorships are $1,200 for a table of eight.

‘Much Ado’ coming to Two Strike Park

The Crescenta Valley Arts Council and the Southern California Lyrical Theater present Much Ado About Nothing, a free Shakespeare in the Park event at Two Strike Park.

Under the direction of artistic director Alison Eliel Kalmus, the performance will take place tonight, Friday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m.
