GLENDALE — Two 18-year-old men pleaded not guilty on Monday to a non-fatal stabbing of three men after a break-in last week at a city residence, court officials said.
Arman Yeghyan and Edgar Isaian both face three counts of attempted murder as well as one count of robbery and first-degree burglary, Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. Yeghyan and Isaian are being held on $500,000 bail in a city jail.
“They were going to commit a burglary,” Lorenz said. “They were looking for money.”
On Thursday, Yeghyan reportedly entered the house on the 400 block of West Stocker Street just after 3 p.m. and was confronted by the three men. He likely didn’t expect them to be in the home, Lorenz said.
The confrontation turned into a fight, and Yeghyan stabbed the three men with a knife, Lorenz said.
Yeghyan — wearing a bloodied shirt — was taken into custody by police outside the house.
Police discovered Isaian was also involved in the incident, but he fled before police responded to the house, Lorenz said. Police arrested Isaian about 6 p.m. Thursday.
“There was a second suspect acting as a lookout,” Lorenz said.
The three men were taken by ambulance to a hospital after the stabbing.
Two of the three injured men were brothers, said Ida Nazarian, a relative of the men.
The two brothers have been released from hospital and are resting at home, Nazarian said.
“They are not so good, but they are home,” she said.
One of the brothers was stabbed in the face, Nazarian said.
Yeghyan and the two brothers were friends prior to the stabbing, Nazarian said.
The details of Yeghyan and Isaian’s relationship to the injured men is unclear, Lorenz said.
They had “some type of relationship,” he said.
Eight robberies were reported in June in the city, according to Glendale police crime statistics. Police recorded 57 burglaries in June, according to monthly crime statistics.
By definition, a robbery occurs when a victim is either threatened or hurt during the larceny.
Burglary is when a person enters a structure with the intent to commit a crime, and generally a victim is not present.
Yeghyan and Isaian are scheduled to appear Aug. 19 in the Burbank Courthouse, court officials said.
